Action and the Object

Postby daisyrae on Sun Mar 08, 2009 8:47 pm

Got here via an article that mentioned 'Object', been annoyed by the growth of lazy sexism over the last decade; lads mags, the promotion of female stupidity as a modern virtue and such, when I was growing up I believed that women would have more respect and opportunities than my mother's generation experienced; I now feel angry that I am surrounded by such negative representations of women and that this is deemed acceptable, how do you feel about this? What should be done?

hi daisy rae

you might be interested in getting involved with the representations of women in the media project, which is running as a joint effort between bristol fawcett society and BFN. we have looked at how women are portrayed in the media and presented our findings in st werburghs, the cube and london.

we did some direct activism against lads mags - you can see the film we made if you search for guerilla nutz on you tube.

we're having a get together to chat about the next stage of the project so keep an eye out to get involved!
